Excalibur
Location (Las Vegas Strip/Las Vegas/Big Damn Coleheads)
The Excalibur Hotel and Casino is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, in the United States.
Excalibur, named for the mythical sword of King Arthur, uses the Arthurian theme in several ways. Its facade is a stylized image of a castle. A wizard-like figure representing Merlin looked out from a high turret.
Excalibur is situated at the Tropicana - Las Vegas Boulevard intersection. The hotel is linked by overhead pedestrian bridges to neighboring casinos to the north (New York New York, across Tropicana Avenue) and to the east (Tropicana, across the Strip). There is a free tram that connects Excalibur to its sister MGM Resorts International properties to the south, Luxor and Mandalay Bay.
The Masquerade
A family themed hotel and casino built during the hey-day of themed casinos in the 1990s, the Excalibur was, at one time, the largest hotel in the United States. Parapet-like bridges carry pedestrians through the faux-portcullis main entrance and into the gaming floor. The "Fun Dungeon" of the castle is home to a massive arcade targeted at entertaining the children of gaming parents. The "Tournament of Kings" features a utensil optional feast and joust nightly.
The Rumor
The "family friendly" exterior of the casino hides a darkened reality. Every year, dozens of children go missing in the labyrinthine corridors of the casino, while the rumors of real blood being shed in the knightly jousts is far from mere speculation. The hotel is, in truth, the hunting grounds of a clan of the Winter Court rumored to be ruled over by "The Maidens", a coven of true Sidhe and their spell bound human servants. The castle was constructed as a snide insult to the true, fabled Camelot in tribute to the Maiden's mistress, Morgan Le Fay.
