History

Little is known about her before her infamous engagement. She was born in (state) and had a presumably normal upbringing. In 1860 she was betrothed to (tbd), but he was called away to serve in war before they could marry. She remained faithful, supporting his efforts as best as possible. As she was start to age out of "marriagable age", she had to resist many efforts to convince her to accept another engagement in (tbd)'s stead. Eventually she moved to (Aunt's house) in Missouri, where she was able to earn a meager wage to pay her way while awaiting her true love's return.

When the war ended, (tbd) did not return. The general staff didn't seem to know where to find him--officially he was missing, but couldn't be confirmed dead, nor was he found in any Union prison. They cautioned her that, in all likelihood, he deserted, and wasn't worth looking for any further, but she did not relent. She traveled across the country, visiting graveyards, field hospitals, prisons, and even scummy towns and settlements notorious for their population of deserters and other outlaws. She became known as the Wandering Bride, coloring a few newspapers with her heartbreaking story of a love that transcends warfare and--in all likelihood--death.

In fact, she was on the right track, but wasn't pessimistic enough. He truly was to be found in the Underworld, but not by any Yankee's bullet, nor disease, nor the wages of sin of an outlaw. He has fallen quite literally into the realm of the dead, having sold his soul to a devilish entity who promised him power. You see, he was in fact a wizard, a stoled practitioner of the Order of Merlin, albeit a branch that swore loyalty to the CSA. In the latter days of the war, desperate to find an advantage
