Flat-Footed

A flat-footed character is one who is not aware of combat, and is not actively maintaining defense. In this state, a character's Reflex Defense is always 0, regardless of bonuses.

Once a character becomes aware of danger, he is no longer flat-footed, even if he cannot perceive any enemies.
