Description: A large and florid Damaran human in his early sixties.
Information: In the last few weeks, ever since the spring thaw, something strange has been lurking around the town. Cattle and sheep started disappearing in the night, and in the last few weeks, they have lost at least 7 villagers that they know of. About a month ago, another group of investigators went out into the woods, operating on some theory about the old Nar ruins up in the mountains, but they've never come back. Vurnor is at his wits end. If the party is willing to put an end to these attacks, he is willing to authorize double what he was going to pay the old adventurers, 6 gold Imbrar.
Felosial of Highmoon
Female half Moon elf, half Damaran
Profession: Constable
Description: A tall, handsome woman with the angular chin and cheeks indicative of an elven heritage. Her skin is pale and her eyes and hair are so black as to be almost blue.
Information: Felosial, as constable, has detailed records of the deaths and mutialtions through the last two months. She can inform the party that it appears the attacks are growing more frequent, to the point where she has already instituted a night curfew to stop further attacks. She also has a record of the adventurers commisioned by the mayor and can tell them the most about all of them. A group of four went into the mountains 4 tendays ago, searching for some old ruins that are shunned by the locals. They included Talgen and Sharwyn Hucrele (the girl was a wizard from the Order of the Violet Staff in Sarshel), the son of a local woodsman named Karakas Holtz (whose father is now one of the deceased), and a knight, Ser Bratford Krol, a Knight of the Temple.
Important Characters
Kerowyn Hucrele
Female Damaran human
Profession: Merchant agent
Description: A thin, pale woman with graying blond hair. A silver pendant depicting an arc of coins hangs about her neck like a badge of office.
Information: Kerowyn is a agent of the Hucrele family merchant company based out of Sarshel in the Duchy of the Reach, on the far coast. She is here trying to find any leads on the disappearance about a month back of two of her cousins, a brother and sister named Talgen and Sharwyn. Both Hucrele got it into their heads to set out for a life of adventure. Their parents are worried sick, and now Kerowyn believes that they may have headed into the mountains and gotten themselves killed in some cursed Nar ruin. She's desperate and willing to offer anyone to come back with information about her cousins a good deal of money. She's willing to offer salvage rights on their gear as well as 125 silver Ilmara's per gold signet ring they would be wearing. She's willing to double the reward if the you can return her cousins to her, safe in mind and body.
Description: A 2 foot tall gnomish toymaker, he also doubles as the town healer. He is heavyset, with a ginger muttonchop beard and clever little glasses.
Information: Immelswit knows a bit about the deaths, having been called to examine the bodies of those that were recovered. Though he agrees with the constable about the most likely cause of death being mauling by wolves, he has also discovered the same brambles that the party has. He tried to keep them in a silver box, but he discovered that the bramble had turned to ash upon contact with the silver. He was never brought anyone still living while poisoned or infected by the tree, so he doesn't know anything about treating those that die. He also knows a little about the ruins above the town, the basics of the story about the war with King Pendarn Mirandor, it's old name of Dun Guldur, and that there was a red dragon involved. He knows that the old citadel was thrown down in great casting of divine power, and that the locals shun the area, considering the rift cursed.
Rurik Lutgehr
Male shield dwarf
Profession: Blacksmith
Description: An elderly blacksmith with three young apprentices, his black beard gone mostly gray.
Information: He doesn't know much about the strangeness in town, but he does know a bit about the adventurers who passed through a month ago. The knight, Ser Krol, came in to get his armor checked and they talked about the sword he bore, which he called Ereldigen, supposedly a magic weapon passed down from his grandfather. To Rurik's eyes, the boy might be right, as it was a masterwork piece of longsword craftsmanship being the stamp of the hands of a human master smith.
