Saillonne is the ancient capital of the Ahrimid civilization. Founded over 3,000 years ago by the Honoin people, as led by the Chukharn, and offshoot of the Druids of Tirland, the city has been continuously inhabited since, and has remained an important economic and cultural center for the race of Man.
History
Saillonne was founded in 1966 BGC and has remained continuously inhabited since. Its history is generally divided into four epochs:
| Epoch | Span | Characterization |
|---|---|---|
| Chukharan Era |
1966-1107 BGC |
City ruled by the Chukharn druid-wizards, Sailleen Cataract formed through magic to serve as a foundation. People eventually rebel against magocracy--office of the Grand Caliph formed, nobility emerges. |
| Fulun Era |
1107-69 BGC |
City ousts the Chukharn and most of the nobility. Ruled by a series of increasingly unstable and outlandish governments, including dragons, bandits, and undead. Order eventually restored by the Memlukkar, who retained the throne for centuries absent the Grand Caliph. |
| Latter Era |
69 BGC - 338 GC |
City conquered by the Kingdom of the Sword, the Grand Caliph is restored as vassal of the King of the Sword. The Order of the Ring is established, with its roots amongst the Chukharn, as the Memlukkar are removed from power. |
| Modern Era |
338 GC - present |
City proclaims itself new capital of the Kingdom of the Sword after Oathkeep is sacked by the Kurnish Invasion. The pretense is slowly abandoned as the moniker becomes obselete, and the term Ahrimid Empire is resurrected from the days of the Latter Era. |
Recent Uprising
:Main Article: Era of Nineteen Kings, Habil Ibn-Nasir
Recently, the continuity of the Grand Caliph was nearly severed during an uprising known as the Era of Nineteen Kings (1346-1360 GC). It began as a plot amongst the nobility to assassinate the unpopular Grand Caliph Anuhar Bahleidin and his descendants. It was successful, but none of those who claimed the throne after the dynasty was destroyed would fare much better. In total, nineteen nobles claimed the title of Grand Caliph and were recognized, while countless others made claims they could not ultimately support.
The era ended when a conspiracy between the Order of the Ring, the Memlukkar, and the Curatore to restore order by renewing the legitimacy of the dynasty as best as possible. They located Habil Ibn-Nasir, a minor noble sharing a recent ancestor with the deceased royal family. A young, carefree playboy, Habil had little compunction about accepting the job, and was soon crowned Grand Caliph. With the full support of the three otherwise oft-warring pillars of Sailleen society, the Grand Caliph resisted any further sedition, and remains in power today.
