Born in the village of Seaside in southern Cyre, Tyburn was born to the prime line of House Cannith. His mother, Orania, was the daughter of Starrin d'Cannith by his first wife, but she married "beneath her station" as was disinherited. Orania and her husand Richter Madrigal had a large, happy family...until they were claimed, initially one-by-one, then the remainder all at once on the Day of Mourning, leaving Tyburn as the only survivor.

Having been sent to live with his father's family in Sharn, Tyburn escaped the destruction of the Mourning. Initially dismayed to be unable to aid in the war effort due to his young age, young Tyburn had every intention of defending his homeland as soon as he was allowed, planning to serve as an aviator in the nation's burdgeoning air force. The Day of Mourning--as it did to many things--cut that dream short. He drifted for a couple of years, before finally finding a new purpose--or at least enough of one to distract himself.

History

Lineage

Tyburn's mother, Ourania Madrigal, was the trueborn daughter of [https://eberron.fandom.com/wiki/Starrin_d%27Cannith Baron Starrin d'Cannith], eldest before her brother [https://eberron.fandom.com/wiki/Norran_d%27Cannith Norran] and sister [https://eberron.fandom.com/wiki/Jorlanna_d%27Cannith Jorlanna]. However, for her insistence on marrying a commoner, [Richart Madrigal], she was [https://eberron.fandom.com/wiki/Excoriate excoriated] from the house, to prevent any succession crises down the road. This proved somewhat prophetic on Starrin's part, as she produced no less than 4 male heirs and 7 overall, all of whom might have nipped at the heels of his chosen successor. Of course, none of that ever came to pass, as Norran perished along with Starrin and the Madrigals on the Day of Mourning.

Well, almost all of them. Every one of Ourania's children was serving the Cyran war effort, save for little Tyburn, who was far too young. In the later days of the war, he was sent to foster with his great uncle Waldo and his daughter [Mara Mendenhall], who had a few children his age. Thanks to their foresight, Tyburn survived the devastating loss of the rest of his family, and remains a trueborn descendent of the last accorded Patriarch of House Cannith. In fact, his claim could be said to be superior to any of the three competitors.

If not for the fact that his mother was excoriated, that is. Generally speaking, excoriation extends to all descendants, but by convention, this can be annulled for descendants who manifest the dragonmark. Tyburn has successfully hidden his dragonmark, to the point where it is generally believed he is unmarked, and therefore not a threat to the others. Even if it were known, however, it is uncertain what it would mean--generally, the ruling patriarch must take direct action to restore the House Name to an excoriated member or their descendants, mark or no. But there is no accorded patriarch, and of course none of the three would dare endanger their own claim. This situation is therefore untested ground, with no clear precedent for resolution.

As things stand, Tyburn is a very non-public figure, who was assumed dead at first, then known not to be marked, and generally has been ignored since the fracture of the house. He makes no claim to the Cannith name, and otherwise abides the rules of his family's excoriation.

It is worth noting that the current "baron" of Cannith South, Merrix the Younger, is the son of an excoriated heir, Aaren, but was adopted by Merrix the Elder, and had his name restored by Starrin, on the understanding that he wouldn't go nipping at Norran's heels any time soon.
