Bront
- Kind
- Bullfrog
- Domain
- Pond edge, reeds and muddy banks
- Role
- Bully, territorial nuisance, eventual local ally
- Claim
- The entire pond, by assertion
A very large bullfrog with a very small understanding of jurisdiction. Bront considers himself ruler of the pond on the grounds that he occupies it loudly and nobody has yet talked him out of it.
He demands deference from smaller creatures, invents rules as they become convenient, and treats ordinary movement past his bank as evidence of trespass. His authority is largely imaginary. His confidence in it is not.
Appearance
Broad-bodied and heavy, mottled green-brown, with a yellow throat that inflates dramatically when he croaks. He favours a flat stone at the water's edge from which he can observe, announce, and interfere.
Personality
Domineering, vain, and easily offended. He is used to ending disagreements with size and volume, and when neither works he assumes the other party has misunderstood the situation.
He is not brave so much as bold while in control. The mine is the first thing he has ever met that cannot be shouted at.
Powers
| Power | Effect |
|---|---|
| Thunder Croak | A booming call that startles nearby creatures and carries a long way |
| Bull Rush | Uses size and weight to overwhelm smaller opponents |
| Pond Leap | Crosses substantial distance in a single jump |
| Territorial Sense | Notices disturbance in the pond and along its banks |
Shae
Bront initially treated Shae as one more small creature to push around. She did not respond correctly, which confused him considerably.
Things changed when the pond began to drain. Bront's whole standing rests on a place he does not actually control, and Shae was the first creature willing to say so out loud. He may yet be useful — almost certainly while insisting that helping was his idea from the start.
