Once a proud soldier in the Royal Army, Hawthorne was greivously injured in battle, and lost his sword arm. He was discharged from the army, and sought to restore his lost honor and purpose. With the help of the Leprechauns, he was fitted with a prosthetic arm, and has taken to adventuring, seeking to prove himself once more, and to protect the realm from the forces of darkness.

The Battle of Rust Valley
Successfully defended the Emberwaste from a Redcap invasion. The pivotal battle in Rust Valley turned the tide of the war, and Hawthorne's earned distinction for bravery and leadership. He was awarded the Silver Hand of Valor, and promoted to the rank of Captain in the Royal Army.
Massacre at Ochrewater
Refusing to call it the "Battle" of Ochrewater, Hawthorne was present for an assault on the Ochrewater foundries, vital to the Redcaps' war effort. The Redcap army fled from superior forces, but Hawthorne and his faeries were ordered to destroy the foundries in detail--including the civilian smiths and their families. Hawthorne refused, and even stood against his general in protest. His injury was the result of a failed duel, which would have led to his death, had a Redcap civilian not taken the shot at wthe unsuspecting general. Hawthorne was allowed to flee, and word of his treachery did not reach the rest of the army. Still, when told he would be discharged as no longer fit for service, Hawthorne accepted his fate.
Clockwork Perfidy
While staying with the Leprechauns of the Rimeward, Hawthorne was present during a Gremlin raid on the Leprechaun's clockwork factories. The Gremlins had a long history of such raids, preferring to steal the Leprechauns' painstakingly crafted gears and bobs rather than build their own. Without a sword arm, Hawthorne was forced to rely on his Spriggan magic, something he'd long neglected in favor of his martial training. He was able to use his magic to create illusions and shadows, and was able to outwit the Gremlins, and protect the Leprechauns' factories.
