NARR
The NARR (Narr Action Roleplaying Rules) system is a classless tabletop roleplaying system based loosely on current and previous editions of Dungeons & Dragons.
Character Creation
Players create a character by determining various attributes, such as:
- Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma (the ability scores)
- Melee Attack, Ranged Attack, Skill, Magic
- Vitality, Energy
- Defense, Will, Save
There are no classes in NARR. Rather, players choose Feats as they level up; the feats give them powers beyond simple attacks.
Combat
The NARR system places less emphasis on randomness and more on strategy.
Each player has a certain number of Initiative Points going into each round of combat. Each player and opponent bets a certain amount of those points on their action; the highest bidder goes first, and the order of actions proceeds in order from highest to lowest.
Every participant regains a certain number of Initiative Points each round of combat; this is significantly less than that with which they started. Thus, a conservative player might bet low early on in order to retain a tactical advantage later in the fight.
Each action requires a certain amount of Initiative Points to complete, so a player cannot complete the action if his bet is lower.
