Tyr
Tyr is the god of war and of law β and to the Aesir those are nearly the same thing, for law is simply the war that has agreed to stop. He is the keeper of oaths, the arbiter of just combat, and the conscience the rest of the court quietly resents for being better than they are.
When the gods needed to bind a monster too dangerous to leave free β the great wolf-weapon Fenrir β only Tyr would lay his hand between its jaws as a pledge of good faith. The binding held. The hand did not. Tyr gave it without complaint, because his word had been given first, and to Tyr a word is the only thing in the universe that cannot be re-forged.
