Story
Brief
Session 1/2
Jake Wilson comes to Sam to ask for help finding his missing daughter Tula, a teenage leukemia patient. The party investigates.
After first thinking she was attacked by some sort of bird-monsters, it is revealed that she is a Thunderbird, a Native American shapeshifter of sorts, but still missing. Finally, with the help of powerful magic, she is tracked to a remote installation, where she was being "treated" by a vampire, who claims she "rescued" the girl from her mortal illness by transforming her. In any case, she is still missing, so the party parts with the vampire on uncertain terms.
Tracking Tula leads them to a series of raves she might have attended, including one that nearly destroyed the containing building. Anticipating the next event, which was soon upon them, the party moved on to the next location, where they find seven powerful bound demons, which they must vanquish--including one who turns out to be Fiona. After dispatching the demons, they find Tula in the basement, bound at the center of the ritual; they dispel it and rescue her.
But they soon realize she is doomed--for she is now a vampire, and though she had not fed yet, she would have to quite soon. With some stolen blood, they grant her a reprieve--but Sam makes it abundantly clear that he will not allow her to become a murdering monster. Rhys promises he can teach her how to survive without killing. Reluctantly, Sam agrees, allowing Rhys to watch the child while he researches the magic behind the demon-binding. Sean, sent to ensure the rave did not go down as planned in the demon-infested building, burned it to the ground, watching with delight.
Session 3
Where magic fails to track down the demon-binder, old-fashioned detective work succeeds. Tracking the event back to its planners, they ultimately confront Rachel Weisz at her home, who had organized one of the events. She turned out to be a witch, but not the witch, admitting that such bindings were far beyond her ability (and of course outside her moral inclination). She agreed to help them track down the real witch: Olympia Griffin.
All they knew about her was her name, and a tidbit of her history: her daughter, Shae Griffin, had fallen in love with a vampire (Felix Thorne), who had tried to turn her, but ended up killing her. The party was able to track him down at The Fang, a local club friendly to vampires, thanks to a tip from Tula. With a show of force, he spilled a few beans, enough to hint at Olympia's whereabouts.
Meanwhile, Rachel and Sam finished their research into the magic Olympia had been using; it turned out she was preparing a Bloodline Curse. With Tula as the target, the curse would wipe out countless vampires, including Felix, and certainly The Doctor. It seemed they had a common enemy.
Sam negotiated a truce with the Doctor; he and the party would weave a teleportation trap around the vampire's warren in the desert, and trick Olympia into fleeing her safehouse via teleportation. Once trapped in the warren, the Doctor would aid in her defeat, as she was too powerful to face directly. The whole thing hinged on a grand distraction: a massive publicity stunt by Rhys to promote his magic act, which itself was a distraction from a covert attack on her precious magical vault in the sub-basement, which was itself a trick to force her to flee to an alternate safehouse, which she couldn't do when her path was blocked, so she teleported...right into the trap.
The battle was brief...and redundant, as the witch did not go down in a single bout. Still, she had awoken the wrath of the Doctor, in daring to slay the hundreds, if not thousands of souls she had saved over the centuries. Olympia's end was not pretty.
Epilogue
Olympia is dead. The Doctor has left town. The rental helicopter has been paid for.
There remains the small matter of Tula's fate.
After an impassioned discussion, the party convinces Sam to allow her a chance to live; he agrees, but has conditions: besides the obvious (not killing anyone), she must return to school and return to her father's care. Only after her homework is done (and, you know, the sun sets) can she do cool vampire stuff.
Later, when all else is done, Sam visits the abandoned warren in the desert...and realizes it would make a fine location for a magical prison.
