Meta
This article contains information about the information on this site.
"Meta" is a complex concept, but one of its most important meanings can mean "self-referential". Thus, "metadata" means "data about data", as "metahumor" means "humor about humor".
This article is about this article. By association, it is about every article. In plain English, this article is about the unspoken conventions and themes of BDH that help to define it. (For a definition of "unspoken", see Irony).
This article is not to be confused with The Meta.
Meta-Concepts
Memetics
The future is about memes. The future is a meme. The present is a meme. We're all memes.
Before we were born, we were ideas. As were our parents. Nothing has ever happened without being imagined, except perhaps for a few unimaginable things which all were previously imagined as "unimaginable things".
After we die, we will (hopefully) live on as ideas. Those we create, as well as the ideas which encapsulate and describe our brief existence on us.
Ironically, in our search for the soul, we create perhaps the most powerful Idea ever imagined, and missed the point entirely, not realizing that Ideas are the soul, they are our immortality. Again, not only will we live on as ideas, but we were ideas before we were even born.
What's the point? The point is that these concepts will be as obvious and plain in the future as they are vague and bizarre today. Memetics is a poorly-understood fringe science in 2012; in 2030, it will be common knowledge (at least among the savvy). The idea that ideas are living beings will make the inevitable jump from nascent youth to omnipresent maturity.
In plain English: this wiki will often describe ideas as if they are living organism. It might say that "BDH has learned such and such" or "it has evolved in such a way", as if it is a living, breathing thing. That's because it is. It is an idea, borne of other ideas, having taken on its own identity. Given a name, it gained power. Given guises, it gained identity. Now it is unstoppable. It takes command of we living, "sentient" beings, demanding to be let out into the world, where it might enjoy awareness, purpose, and immortality.
Sound confusing? Refer to previous point about memetics and its acceptance as a concept.
