Session Log
1 - Back in Black
Dorian just activated his dark energy reactor at a public unveiling, and all hell broke loose. It created a reality maelstrom, which he used to teleport home to Toril.
Hyacinth's mind was restored by a mysterious visitor (Faysal) bringing her the Desert Rose. While she processed what was going on, Lucita and her Paradox friends heroically saved the civilians. Charles and Coyote arrived to contain the universe destruction, and Hyacinth herself closed the maelstrom with Midnight.
Thanks to the Desert Rose, she remembered everything. 1987, her countless loops through reality, the truth about Dorian...how he'd enchanted her decades ago, and how he'd been in control of her ever since.
There was only one thing to do: go back to that stupid world, hunt him down, and enact justice.
Charles and Lucita promised they would keep the home universe from ripping itself apart. Coyote traveled with Hyacinth through deepest shadow (a Charles special, of course), narrowly avoiding Shadevari shenanigans, and finally arriving on Toril. Hyacinth smacked into Toril at breakneck speed and died.
However, her Ring of Perfect Sustenance had started working again ever since the incident. Having washed up onshore dead, long enough for some local kobolds to rob her blind, she awoke to the astonishment of some local island folk. They offered her what help they could.
She took a gaggle of young adventurers into the island depths to retrieve her stuff from the mysterious "scalykind". The kobolds were, of course, no match, and she recovered her weapons and belongings.
Coyote finally arrived 24 hours later, having been held up in Torilian god customs, where he had to agree to Ao's terms of service, and generate himself a proper avatar. Finally, they were reunited and ready to rock.
2 - From Mallorca Via Orca
Travel from the island proves simpler than worried, as Coyote can transform into a giant eagle. They fly east, for many hours, but he eventually tires. Since she doesn't need to breathe, they opt to travel via orca--slower, but less prone to falling out of the sky. A helpful whale mom points them to Calimport.
Calimport, it seems, is under blockade by the Iron Fleet. Millions have crowded the streets, bringing their lives with them--but even with all of their food, starvation is near, as only a few brave caravans dare to cross the djinn-infested land routes to resupply the hungry city.
Hyacinth checks in with Dorian's old villa, which is now owned by Neesa. The yuan-ti offers some information for free, but much more aid in trade for any juicy secrets not yet unveiled in the villa. Hyacinth unlocks the secret door to Dorian's double-secret lab, retrieves her thigh-highs, and invites Neesa to enjoy his many magic items and arcane texts, as well as some dead clones and an empty clone jar.
She then makes her way to the Temple of Old Night, howling at the altar of Shar for reasons known only to Hyacinth. She reunites with an incredulous Lucia. They reminisce.
3 - Hoist the Colours
Ever the hero, Hyacinth has resolved to break the siege and sink as many Iron Fleet ships as she can. She employs the Iron Maidens, Neesa's house guard, and the many shipless Nallojal seamen eager to defend their home city. The city's artificers aid her in the construction of many explosives--effectively, high explosive sticky bombs. She conducts a ritual to Umberlee, offering praise and beseeching the Sea Queen to abandon the Greycloaks who serve the Iron Fleet. Umberlee gives her a quest: bring the Meridian below the waves, and you shall have your favor.
Hyacinth convinces Meridian Jones to accept an upgrade to his ship which will not only allow it to travel as a submarine, but also survive in space. Specifically, Lucia will craft a spell engine that generates a shadowy shield around the whole ship, fed by magic. To create the engine, they'll need a huge ritual: the temple gets things going, but the bulk of the energy will be provided by the public...
Thanks to a huge concert! In the grounds of the Syl-Pasha's abandoned palace, Hyacinth and her modrons (she summons Mo, who has been promoted to Decadron, and commands a small army of lesser modrons) create an epic stage, and she, Lucia, and Coyote put on a hell of a show. The fireworks and blaring music well into the night provide fine cover for the prep work being done to break the siege. With Meridian upgraded, they waste no time, setting out in the wee hours of the night to attack the fleet from below.
Hyacinth and Coyote are one strike force; the Iron Maidens are another; Aemhan's undead form a third; and Neesa's yuan-ti a fourth. Together, they wire up over 20 ships before anyone takes notice. The order is given to detonate all charges, but just then, Hyacinth is pulled onto the deck by Greycloaks, and the flagship captain, Thora Helnsdottir, commands her crew to bring her down. An epic battle ensues, which sees Hyacinth nearly downed (saved by Lucia's Pain Suppression), and Coyote subdued, but our heroes prevail, and escape the ship via shadow portal mere seconds before it explodes.
The fleet, missing its 20 greatest ships and its greatest commanders, suddenly comes under attack by the Nallojal, hundreds of merchant ships, and the city's defensive cannons. Wisely, they flee.
4 - Road Trip
Hyacinth and Neesa built several ATVs to enable rapid overland travel. Neesa contributed psionic fabricate to speed things along.
2 days of crafting, followed by 5 days of travel:
- Day 1: Zazzespur
- Day 2: camped in the Wealdath
- Day 3: camped by Lake Esmel
- Day 4: Athkatla
- Day 5: Baldur's Gate
- Day 6: camped near Dragonspear Castle
- Day 7: Waterdeep
Several deals were made, guaranteeing bounties:
- Pirate ship: 100 gp
- Pirate: 1 gp
- Pirate Captains: 25 gp
- Thora Helndottir: 1,000 gp
And quests:
- Destroy the Iron Fleet: 11,000 gp
Deals were made with Waukeen for knowledge:
- Six questions:
- Where is my tavern? - While it isn't much of a tavern anymore, it still exists; in the Spine of the World, north of the Silver Marches.
- Where can I find a like-minded arcanist I can trust? - Leuthil Arcor of Myth Drannor
- What is Dorian's plan? - He has spent the last 8 years with seemingly one focus: intensifying his own power. That seems to mean protecting what he already has, first and foremost. His latent divinity protects his access to the Weave, although he has not wasted time in studying alternate methods of power use, most notably that of the ancient Netherese, his and Suryn's long-time study. Though the Spellplague rent the Weave, it did not do so for the Shadow Weave--whether that currently empowers him, I do not know, but I am willing to surmise, based on his actions, that he intends to--or is already in the process of--taking control of it. (As a goddess, even I cannot think of methods better suited to a lesser power in need of greater divinity to achieve a goal, other than taking it from other gods.)
- Saved 3 for later
And other rewards:
- Six silver coins of minor intervention: each can buy Inspiration once
- Three gold coins major intervention: each can buy a Miracle
- Platinum coin of ???
