Note: Vi and Sister Ruth

Main Plot

Recently in the city there have been a rash of disappearances and what has been written off as animal attacks. The police and thus Mac know that it has been humans from the bite marks. There have also been disappearances from the morgue but this information is hard to come by and may be given by Mac and might not. It may come up later as it will send them down the zombie path to soon. What is actually happening is that a necromancer is in control of them, he is also blackmailing Father Joesph about providing human research subjects to Atlas Labs. It is this fact that brings one to wonder if he is the necromancer.

Mac comes to the party and wants their help in tracking down what is happening.

He can't get involved in this one, as he has already stepped into the fire by getting by all red tape.

Many of the reported missing were bums and ner-do-wells from the Mission of the Risen, and filed by a Sister Ruth. The cops aren't paying to much attention to it on the surface but Mac does sense that the higher ups have been alerted to it and are watching which is why Mac can't do this himself.

After the party does some patrolling and/or preliminary research they should call Mac or he can call them and check in on their progress. He can then tell them he got some info from another source that confirms zombies and that they seem to be behaving in a herd like manner and that they should track them. He gives the party a tracker to follow the zombies back to their daylight resting place. The behavior of the zombies (i.e. not walking around during the day) is the first clue to the necromancer controlling them. The tracker leads to the sewer, it is filled with a few zombies at first and then more and more as they get closer to the source. The source being the entrance into Atlas labs, which earlier that day was zombified. Once they get to the top office and find the paperwork the alert goes out and Mac calls them telling them to GTFO as Atlas is going to firebomb it. Atlas labs also has a clue as to the Resistance (mainly that it exists and they are afraid of it).

They can flee back through the sewers or some other genus PC way. If they go back through the sewers they have a chance to notice the secret path that takes them to the church. This might be found earlier if they are really good at their searching, which can bypass the lab (they will still have to come back and clean it out once they realize Father Joseph is actually a former scientist there and has been selling them bums.) If they do skip the lab and go directly to the church they probably wont get the Resistance clue.

Subplot

Twist 1: Father Joseph turns out to be the evil scientist that is eluded to in the Lab dungeon. If the Party goes to the Lab dungeon first then they will find paperwork (IRB Permission slips for human research) from the Mission linking it back to the Father.

Twist 2: If the party realizes that the Father is not the necromancer and does the Church dungeon first we find he has been blackmailed and mind controlled by Atlas Labs. (If the Party doesn't kill him)

Settings

  • Mission of the Risen: An open door mission for the poor and downtrodden of South Side. It is an old church, Catholic, it has been around since the Revolution and has burnt down several times. It has a crypt and active graveyard it leads to the Necromancers secret base. It also functions as a seal on a dark node, which happens to be in ascendency (this is NOT common knowledge and can only be found with extensive research).

  • Atlas Lab: Former lab of Atlas, has very recently been completely overcome by Zombies. It has a sewer entrance which the party can find by following the Zombies. The Atlas cops are basically going to self clean the dungeon as the party finishes getting the info they need.

NPCS

  • Father Joseph: A former scientist for Atlas he was engaged in unethical human research testing (and still provides people to them under mind control) he helped develop weaponized viruses. He has since tried to repent for his actions by opening the Mission of the Risen.
