Niflheim

Niflheim is one of the three primordial realms — worlds that existed before the Aesir rose, remnants of the cosmos in its first cold age. It is a world of fog, glacier, and absolute stillness: a place where heat, motion, and time itself seem to run down. From its frozen springs flow the rivers that, the oldest records say, fed the birth of everything.

The Aesir do not rule Niflheim. They study it from a distance and leave it alone. Some scholars believe the Adversary devouring the stars at the edge of the galaxy is simply Niflheim's cold, finally coming for everything. Others believe Niflheim is where it will be stopped.
