The galaxy of the Nine Realms is bound together by Yggdrasil — the lattice of Bifrost gates that lets a traveler step from one world to the next across unthinkable distances. Nine great realms hang from its branches, each a world (or stranger thing) unto itself.
The Nine Realms
| Realm | Description |
|---|---|
| Asgard | Seat of the Aesir and capital of the galactic empire. A constellation of megastructures around a tamed sun. |
| Vanaheim | Homeworld of the Vanir — conquered, absorbed, and never quite reconciled to it. |
| Alfheim | Radiant world of the Light Elves, the Aesir's luminous and inscrutable cousins. |
| Midgard | Earth. A garden world whose evolution Odin has shepherded for tens of thousands of years. |
| Jotunheim | Cold frontier of the Jotnar, the giants — the empire's oldest and most stubborn enemies. |
| Svartalfheim | Forge-world of the Dwarves, who build the wonders the gods take credit for. |
| Niflheim | A primordial world of mist and ice, older than the Aesir themselves. |
| Muspelheim | A primordial world of fire and ruin, ruled by Surtr and his burning host. |
| Helheim | The realm of the dishonored dead — a vast underworld of stored souls, governed by Hel. |
