History of Religion
Humans and other civilized beings have believed in otherworldly entities, creation myths, and afterlives since time immemorial. The humans of the Dragon Isles have a long history of shamanism, or worship of the elements, often taking the shape of draconiform gods with striking similarities between hundreds of variations. These religions were brought to the Jeweled Coast and Narga in prehistoric times, and evolved into the more sophisticated religions known today.
Most Imperial scholars do not count shamanism, in any form (including the druid-led religion of Dacia), as a valid religion. Therefore, they are agreed that the first major religion was Zandarism, appearing in the ancient city-states of the Indigan coast some 4,000 years ago.
The philosophy that was to become Dharma began to develop shortly thereafter. The first sacred texts were written in the year 355 in the Vedic Calendar. As the philosophy contradicted many Zandarist tenets, it did not quickly gain popularity among Indigans. Imperial and Indigan scholars are divided as to whom to attribute the first philosophies, a split that led to the divergent faiths of today.
Divine Entities
While each religion has its own way of looking at divine power, and their own method of supplication, there are several entities who are generally agreed upon as existing in some form or other. In game terms, these are the deities capable of granting spells.
