Electromagnetic, or EM damage is caused by powerful electromagnetic fields. These fields induce current in conductive materials, such as the power circuits in a droid or vehicle. Typically, droids and vehicles are armored with insulating compounds to protect against Thermal and Kinetic damage; these insulators are not very effective against electromagnetic fields, which penetrate armor and induce current to the inner workings, which can cause serious damage.

It is possible to fit droids and vehicles with special EM-blocking armor plates. Such plates need to be charged to oppose EM fields, a process specific to each attack that requires complex processing and circuitry. As a result, such plates are fairly rare, and quite expensive.

Organic lifeforms are not nearly as vulnerable, as their neural pathways are not quite as conductive as metal wiring. It is still possible for a sufficiently powerful EM field to stimulate nerves, causing muscular spasm or even electrical damage. This usually has the effect of disabling the subject with a combination of severe pain, muscular fibrillation, and nervous system overload.
