The Prophet of Eilistraee, Shade is single-handedly responsible for the integration of the Illythirii people into the Silver Marches, and for the general awareness of such a culture--dark elves, not of the Underdark, and free of the many woes with which that origin is attached (though not necessarily the stigma of their color).
Shade left her people's homeland in the far east, in The Plains of Purple Dust, to seek the aid of others in freeing her people from a dark influence. She found herself in the High Forest, in the lands that would become the Silver Marches, and there she learned of the cultures outside her own, and of the attitudes most elves and humans have toward drow.
She took up with an adventuring party, the Company of the Sundered Hand, and shared in their accomplishments. Her heroism earned her much respect amongst the northern folk, and ultimately earned her a chance to prove the mettle and worth of her people to an untrusting populace.
During her adventurers, she found a way to rid her people of their dark influence, and lead them to a new promised land: the Moonwood, in the Silver Marches. To do so, she first had to undergo a difficult and perilous rite, to prove herself the Chosen of Eilistraee. This she did, and all her people recognized it.
She led thousands of riders from the eastern desert to the far west coast, into the alpine forests of the north. There, they aided the forces of Silverymoon in the War of the Marches, and forever earned a place in the history of that region.
And yet, her people still face great prejudice, even in such an enlightened city as Silverymoon. For the most part, they remain reclusive, living off the land in their forest, and ever questing to serve the will of the Goddess, to determine the purpose for which she has seen fit to lead them here.
Lately, Shade has begun active diplomatic negotiations with the many scattered tribes of Illythirii throughout the world. Her work has been slow-going, as only her clan venerates Eilistraee above all other dark elven gods, but she has achieved some measure of accord, particularly on issues involving the Dissolution of the Drow. She now operates within Myth Drannor and greater Cormanthyr, rounding up wayward underdark drow and attempting to turn them back to the light.
