Suryn was born in Myth Drannor in 603 DR, to a family that no longer exists. Likely, her family was not noble, or at least not among the higher nobility, who had other refuges to seek when the Army of Darkness came to the city. She was young, alone, and helpless when the city was destroyed in the Year of Doom, 714 DR.
Much of her past remains a mystery, even to those precious few in whom she confides. What is known is this: since then, she has became an eminent, if low-profile archmage. She has mastered magicks known only to elven High Mages, to which she is not known to have apprenticed, and used them to drain the energy of the Mythal of Myth Drannor--a feat which allowed the new mythal to be raised after the Elven Crusade. She has crafted several mythallars, having gained the knowledge through unknown means (possibly time travel). She is among the world's finest crafters of golems, having mastered magicks to manifest her image and magic over any distance through such creatures, rendering her nigh-immune to harm in her true form.
She is known (to very few) to associate with the highest ranks of the Eldreth Veluuthra, whose goals she ostensibly shares. Those same few know that she has taken as an apprentice Kyrin Lothandrien, whose frustrations with northern politics--and his own family issues--make him vulnerable to manipulation by someone wiser and more deviously clever than he can imagine.
Appearance and Affectations
Suryn is of unremarkable appearance, for an elf. She stands five feet tall, with a slight frame. Her hair is pale blond, her skin a shade paler, but still just colored enough to betray her gold elven heritage. Her eyes are naturally green, though she is usually seen as a golem who merely acts as a proxy, and in such cases her eyes are gold or platinum.
Suryn is very old, even for a Sun Elf. In some guises, she maintains the appearance of fragility and aged grace. However, in others, she retains great vigor. Few besides other Sun Elves know precisely how elven aging works, but those who do would know that an elf fades as his or her desire to remain in the mortal world does--in her case, she has a newfound zeal for some great, earthly goal, and her vitality reflects a desire to remain in the material world as a prime mover.
Powers and Items
Suryn is an archmage beyond the ken of all but the greatest to claim the title. She mastered magic to mortal limits centuries ago; however, in recent years, those limits seem to have been broken, and she was there, ready to seize the opportunity. Her mastery of long-lost secrets of magic, such as the mythallar, is a recent phenomenon.
Her speciality is abjuration. In particular, she has invented many spells to counteract the most powerful anti-magic attacks, such as buffers against disjunction and magical suppression. She is, of course, a master of chromatic and prismatic effects, but prefers the magics of pure force, wielding it for both attack and defense with deadly efficiency.
She is a master of golem magic, and uses golems as proxies. She is able to direct her golems across unlimited distance, or even across planes, using magicks immune to any normal attempt to disrupt. Her golems look and seem like her in all respects (save the eyes), and project her magicks as if she were present to do so. However, slaying them sets her back only a handful of gold. Even soul and mental magic have no effect through her proxy link, as far as anyone has tried.
She carries few overtly magic items. Her dress is simple, but thoroughly and expertly enchanted. She wears a few humble rings that belie exceptional difficulty and expense in crafting, such as a Ring of Wizardry V and Ring of Universal Elemental Immunity.
The one exception to the rule is her sword, a blade of simple, elegant craftsmanship, whose humble appearance belies unfathomable power: the Ancient Protector. The blade itself is a mythallar, generating as much power as the spell engines of old (i.e. enough to keep a hovering mountain aloft, with energy to spare), yet in a compact frame. While mere contact with the blade can instantly vaporize any object or creature, it is nonetheless enchanted with offensive and defensive power beyond the scope of even the mightiest known elven Moonblades.
Besides being a mythallar in itself, the blade's magicks were powered by the draining of the mythal of Myth Drannor, an effort which has imbued the blade with the effects of that mythal. She can call upon any of the mythal's powers, and is protected by its ancient enchantments, including a ward against scrying and teleportation in her vicinity that would be difficult to bypass even by a greater deity. As such, it is not difficult to understand how her true location and activities remain a secret to even the most interested parties.
As the mythal contains the will and life energy of hundreds of mages, and the entire essence of Mythanthor, it is very likely the spirits within the mythal haunt her, as they haunted the vicinity of Myth Drannor for so many centuries after the city's destruction. It is unknown what effect this might have on her psyche.
