Threskel is an ancient land, long considered alternatively part of Chessenta or Unther. For most of its history, in fact, it was independent, occasionally being briefly conquered by either power. For several centuries just prior to the start of Dalereckoning it was part of the Empire of Jhaamdath, before said empire collapsed; that was the longest Threskel spent under foreign rule.
Today, Threskel has been divided, with its western half subject to Chessen rule under Sceptenar Tchazzar, and its eastern half the rule of Untheric King Hamurza Lawbringer. Neither side is investing much in the administration and rebuilding of the land, and it remains somewhat independent, to such extent that its current rulers openly claim the titles of King and Queen of Threskel.
Threskel's traditional borders are the Jade River in the west, and the River of Metals in the east, neatly dividing the realm from Chessenta and Unther. The realm is centered upon Doria, an ancient city founded in the 3rd century before DR by Dorian, the first King of Chessenta, and used as the capital of his empire. As inheritors of his legacy, the Threskans often presume to the status of Rightful Rulers of Chessenta, a presumption shared by virtually every other Chess-speaking city-state.
Threskel is home to Mount Olympus, the selfsame mountain said to be the home of the gods themselves. In fact, the mountain forms a sweeping and majestic backdrop for the city of Doria, and beneath its foothills, The Fields of Pyrollus have long been the site of the Olympic Games, a great quadrennial competition open to all Dorian folk (read: Chessen, Threskan, and Untheric) since ancient times.
