Overview
Cormyr is one of the oldest and most interesting kingdoms in the Forgotten Realms. It's a land of classic fantasy, with a strong king ruling his subjects fairly and evenly, nobles struggling against each other for the scraps of power that the king does not keep to himself, and adventuring companies willing to clear dangerous lands of ferocious monsters for a small share of the crown's treasury. And there is magic - lots of magic.
Of particular note to sellswords hoping to adventure in Cormyr are the laws surrounding adventurers. King Azoun of Cormyr does not allow armed groups of amoral treasure hunters to parade around his kingdom prying up cellar stones and harassing local farmers. To do so would rapidly invite a descent into anarchy and rebellion. Therefore, it is the policy of the crown to require all "adventuring companies" to register with the authorities and acquire an adventuring charter (for a substantial fee and with Court approval, of course).
See Cormyrean Adventuring Charter for more details.
