Psion
First Level
At first level, you receive:
- Proficiency in the Psicraft skill, as well as 4 skills of your choice
At each level, including first, you receive:
- Two new powers (or upgrades to existing powers)
- Two points of Energy
Psicraft
Psicraft is a skill representing blah blah etc. It's special ability is that you don't need verbal, somatic, or (non-expensive) material components.
- Psicraft allows you to cast spells from the Elementalism and Mentalism schools, as well as Evocation (Force).
- The skill is based on Intelligence.
- At-will, bonus action; you focus your mind on a specific task (i.e. a skill check you intend to use in the near future). From this point on, you gain "Focus", with a particular task in mind. If, within 10 minutes, you attempt that action, you may expend your Focus to gain advantage to one skill check or save relevant to it. You must take a short rest before using this ability again.
Psychic Battle
As a psion, you have a variety of options to defend against psychic assault. Whenever you are subject to a mental attack--regardless of whether it is psionic in nature--you may employ Psionic Defenses. Similarly, you gain access to Psychic Attack modes.
Defenses
- Ablative Mind: waste incomign mental effects on tiny, discarded shards of your intellect. TBD
- Mind Trap: trap invading mind in a prison of your own creation. TBD
- Tower of Iron Will: Reaction, 3 Energy, centered circle 1-3; you and others within radius are immune to incoming mental attack if you defeat its DC with a proficient Charisma check. Sustainable for 3 Energy/rd.
Talents
At level 1, 5, 9, 13, and 17, you may choose one talent for which you qualify.
{| !Prerequisites !!Talent !!Description |- | ||Psychic Warrior ||You gain proficiency with all weapons and armor. You may use your Focus to charge a weapon (or unarmed attack) with psychic energy, granting it the Psychic descriptor (equivalent to striking as a magic weapon). |- | ||Soulknife ||You practice an ancient, clandestine art, favored by spies and assassins. You can use your Focus to create a short blade of psychic energy (stats as a dagger, inflicting psychic damage instead of piercing, ignores non-magical armor). Against unaware targets, this weapon inflicts critical damage. |- | ||Psicrystal ||You have a cool-ass crystalline familiar. TBI |}
- Psychic Warrior TBD
- Metamind TBD
- Soulknife TBD
- etc..
Ideas for development
Psions vary along three axes: Complexity (int), Resolve (wis), and Force (cha). In the market for cooler names.
- Force is how hard your powers hit, or push back, or whatever they do.
- Resolve is how much pressure your mind can handle--your psychic endurance.
- Complexity is how much fine control you have over your powers.
Each of these three advance using a common currency--you can't just be great at all 3. They also tend to advance exponentially; this is easiest to demonstrate using Complexity. Let's explore one power: Clairsentience.
- At complexity 0, you can put your psychic focus into Clairsentience, gaining advantage to Insight, Perception, and Initiative checks. That's it.
- At complexity 1, you can use several powers, equivalent to Augury, Object Reading, Detect Minds, Locate Creature/Object, etc
- At complexity 2, you can sense the future, project your senses across miles or light years, etc
