Tiefling
Basic Abilities
At first level, you receive:
- +1 to Str, Con, Cha
- 10 HP
- Outsider: You cannot cross thresholds uninvited. You cannot enter hallowed ground wherein which you would be considered profane. You cannot cross magic circles.
- Demonic Metabolism: Gain resistance to poison damage and advantage to saves against poison. You need only half the sleep of your base race.
- Taint: You accumulate Taint when invoking your extraplanar nature. See below.
- Devil Trigger: At will, as an immediate action, you may invoke your extraplanar nature to become more powerful. Each round you sustain this effect, you accumulate 1 Taint. You gain the following traits in this state:
- +1 size category
- +4 to Str, Con, and Cha
- +50% movement speed
- The ability to fly at the same speed as your movement
- Immunity to fire damage
At each level, including first, you receive:
- One talent (see below)
- 5 Hit Points (10 at first level)
- 1 Mana
- 1 ability score increase (cannot increase the same score more than once per 5 tiefling levels)
Taint
Your Taint score starts at 0 (unless you select abilities that change that), and accumulates when you use certain Tiefling abilities (as described in the ability description).
Should your Taint score exceed your character level + Wisdom bonus, you must pass a Cha save, DC = your Taint score, each time you gain a point of Taint, or each time the DM rules that your infernal seed would be tempted to push you toward evil. Should you fail this save, the DM is allowed to control your actions for 1 round per point of Taint, with the purpose of satisfying the Infernal seed's fel intentions.
You can alleviate Taint through Sin. This lowers your Taint score, but doesn't actually remove the burden of your misdeeds from your soul. In fact, that is the intent of Taint; your Infernal power is trying to force you into sin, one way or another.
Sin
Each time you commit a meaningful Sin, you subtract Taint points. Exact rules TBD.
Lust, Greed, Wrath, Gluttony, etc...
Dominance
You may wish to invest in the Dominance (Cha) skill.
Talents
Every level, you may choose one talent from the below list, as long as you meet any noted prerequisites:
Level 1+
- Ascendant Step: You can ''levitate'' at will.
- Devil's Sight: Your eyes glow--this is unnoticeable in daylight, but obvious in darkness. It does not negatively affect stealth. You gain darkvision that works even in magical darkness.
- Demon Skin: Your skin is an unusual color, such as green or red. You gain +50% resist (fire, poison).
- Eldritch Eyes: You can ''Detect Magic'' at will.
- Fel Magic: Gain two spells, upgrades, or bindings from the Invocation (ethereal, infernal, faerie, shadow, or summoning) school.
- Self-Flagellation: You can conduct a ritual of self-punishment to reduce Taint, inflicting damage and debuffs on you. Rules TBD
- Summon Demons: At will, swift; you summon a fiend. It is each allowed a Cha save against your Dominance check in order to resist summoning. Once summoned, each round, it is allowed a Cha save against your Dominance check; on success, it is free to act as it pleases. Otherwise it must act as you direct. Those whose Challenge Rating is greater than half your level gain advantage to saves against you. Those whose Challenge Rating is equal to or higher than your level cannot be summoned.
- Super Strength:
- You can wield oversize weapons (scale +1). Improvised weapons (such as dumpsters) are still at a disadvantage to hit, but inflict double damage. Purpose-built oversize weapons (like Buster Swords) are the answer to removing disadvantage.
- Failing a Strength check means partial success, and partial success means success.
- You can use Strength checks to open locks.
- For 1 Taint, you can inflict damage similar to a battering ram.
