Wizard
First Level
At first level, you receive:
- Proficiency in the Arcana skill, as well as 4 skills of your choice
At each level, including first, you receive:
- Two new spells (or upgrades to existing spells)
- Two points of Mana
Arcana
Arcana is a skill representing knowledge of glyphs, words, formulae and the like, necessary to express magical effects (at least the way wizards think about them). Spellcasting through Arcana is a very cognitive process, rewarding the strongest intellects. Because wizards use a mostly standardized set of equations, nomenclature, etc, notes from one wizard are usually legible to another, allowing the transfer of knowledge between wizards.
- Arcana allows you to cast spells from the Arcana, Divination, Conjuration, Elementalism, Illusion, and Mentalism schools.
- The skill is based on Intelligence.
Talents
At level 1, 5, 9, 13, and 17, you may choose one talent for which you qualify.
- Abjurer rank 1: whatever it says in the PHB
- Ajburer rank 2: whatever it says in the PHB
- Abjurer rank etc..
- Ajburer rank 2: whatever it says in the PHB
- Conjurer rank 1: etc...
- etc...
- Guild Wizard rank 1: more access to spell knowledge and item crafting, but limitations on conduct
- Guild Wizard rank 2: etc etc
- More to come that aren't just specialty-based
- Note that the exclusion of necromancy is deliberate; I think you should have to take a talent to be a necromancer, as that sort of thing is not typically taught in wizarding colleges
- Same for Chronomancer and other forbidden disciplines
- Eldritch Knight: you gain proficiency with martial weapons and medium armor, and gain a cantrip that lets you summon your weapon and armor with a swift action. (Yes, this negates the Fighter path; if you want fighting styles and techniques, just multiclass)
