Kiernov is a legendary figure in Uldenor's history. Though much is known of the historical figure, far more myth and legend exists than historical fact. It is known that he ruled a unified realm comprising much of modern Uldenor from approximately 540 GC until his death 26 years later, and it is reasonable to conclude that this unification paved the way for the unification of the realm under the first King of Uldenor.

The most common misconception of Kiernov is that he was indeed a King of Uldenor; in fact, he never claimed such a title, though did at one point accept the title of Khan, but this signified his supremacy over the Uldennic Kurns, not the realm of Uldenor. In life, he was most probably addressed only as "Lord", as complex forms of noble address were not in use after the dissolution of the Auld Empire. Later histories named him erroneously as the first King of Uldenor, and this assumption is largely held by common folk even today.

Per legend, Kiernov was a commoner with a flair for adventure. One day, he and his friend and companion Uorgov set forth on a journey to find a secret treasure, the riches of a Kurnish lord, buried in the Crowns. After many hijinx, they found their treasure, and both became lords. Their relationship was soon strained by mutual attraction to Marije Dracova, said to be the fairest maiden in the land. Ultimately, Kiernov was forced to slay his friend when he abducted the woman and tried to force her into marriage. He and Maria married, and from their union springs the royal line of Uldenor, and the House of Kiernauver.

Historical fact cannot confirm Kiernov's earliest origins. There exists no record of a newly-minted lordship borne on the sudden acquisition of wealth, despite the legends speaking of the debut of the lords being an affair to remember for every noble of the land. It seems likely Kiernov was a warlord who cobbled together a barony the old-fashioned--if less dramatic--way. Once ennobled, the historical figure of Kiernov comes into view--he certainly existed, and married one Marije Bieketrova, a noblewoman thought to be the ancestor of the current House Becket. The lineage of their offspring is verified, most importantly Ivan Kiernauver, the first proper King of Uldenor.
