Menendara is the ancient capital of the lands of Menu the Conqueror, and current capital of the Duchy of Menendras, the most populous and (arguably) important province of the realm of Obrith. Founded over 2,200 years ago, the city is a marvel of dwarven engineering: fashioned into the windward side of the Hills of Arnroc, the city straddles the narrow cliffs between the Amandine and the Sorodine, and also commands the only harbor on the Blue Water under the control of Obrith. It is, for this reason, often called the "Crossroads of the North".
History
Saillonne was founded in 1106 BGC and has remained continuously inhabited since. Its history is generally divided into four epochs:
- From 1106 to 3 BGC, the city was ruled by the House of Mennos as a dwarven hold.
- From 3 BGC to 388 GC, the city was ruled by several houses, all sworn to the King of the Sword in Oathkeep.
- From 388 to 567 GC, the city alternated between ruin and despotic rule by Kurnish or other warlords.
- From 567 GC to modern times, the city was recaptured by the House of Mennos, and remains loyal to the realm of Obrith.
